Steetley Quarry

Steetley Quarry is very popular with the riders around Doncaster and is ridden by both mountain bikers and motor bikers. There is challenging enough riding there for everybody from the beginner to the best in the world (Steve Peat sometimes rides there). At weekends and bank holidays the motorbikes swamp the place and it is therefore not advised to ride there at that time. In the middle of the week is the best time to go because there is usually only a couple of people there and you have all the quarry to yourself. So you're interested then? You want to know how to get there? Well here is a diagram and a description to help you find your way.

How To Get there:

I hope you know where Doncaster railway station is or you might get into trouble. If you have any trouble with either the map or the written guide please E-mail me and I will try to help.

Car:

If you are going by car you need to start with the railway station on your right. Go to the next roundabout and take a turn left. head up the road and you will be faced by a bridge going over the road and a left turn to join at the end of it or go under it and turn right. You want the latter. Head up here keeping on the main road until you hit a crossroads with traffic lights. Yes there are many of them round here but there will be a pub on your left and a car showroom on your right. Go straight on, heading into the countryside. Just before you leave the houses on your left there will be a quarry on your right but don't go in there... it's still working. Instead carry straight on up the road until you see a water tower on your right. Stop just before this and park either on the grass by the side of the road or in the lay-by. Get your chosen steed out and head for the water tower. There is a farmers field with a path leading over it into a few trees. Follow the path through the trees and enter a world of total riding heaven.

Bike:

With the train station on your left go to the next roundabout taking a left. Head over North bridge to the big roundabout. From here turn left past the KFC and head straight on up the road until you come to Sprotborough. You will then arrive at some crossroads from which you need to take a left turn. There is then a right-hander past the church, immediately turning left down a hill. At the bottom of the hill the road sweeps left over the canal, which you should follow turning right up another hill. On the hairpin bend there are some rocks to your right-hand side which you need to pass through. Head on this track for a while, passing through another set of rocks until the path goes right under a bridge. instead turn left into some woods which look like they're going along the side of the canal. Follow this path round for about 10/15 minutes until you come closer to the railway. you will eventually see a little building next to the railway just a few yards from the path. Go to the left of this building, across the line. Just to your right there will be a little opening which you can pass through once on the other side of the track. Go through this to see a world of challenging drop-off's steep sections and jumps.
