Walna Scar Road

This downhill combines both, some of the most technical downhilling in the lakes with a very fast downhill. The complete downhill is about 3 miles off-road with a 1 mile road downhill to ensure that your disc is pumped. It starts with a bitch of a climb up to the top of the Old-Man-Of-Coniston, dragging your bike, only being able to ride every hundred yards or so for just a few yards. The downhill, nevertheless is rewarding with plenty of opportunities to ride yourself to the limit. The best way to ride the downhill, in my view, is the described route down towards Coniston. The other way down the mountain is good, but not nearly as good. At the bottom of the off-road section you roll into a gravel car park at high speed, and are faced with a metal gate in front of you. You need to stop and pass through this gate onto a small road. It is a quiet road, with little traffic, but be careful as you hurtle down the hill at about 40mph, because there are a couple of blind corners at 90 degrees and if you're not careful then you'll end up with an unhealthy diet of concrete and stone. If you have any difficulty with getting there or the trail itself could you please email me and I will try to correct the problem.
